What's New?
Added in the first poll question
Now that we are a quarter through the season, it's time to start collecting feedback from meet up attendees on how things are going and what we can do to make it better.
Upgraded software to Drupal 6.14
Drupal released new security updates that required the core of this site to be upgraded to a new version, and have the database and other back end applications modified to continue to operate smoothly.
Added in an XML sitemap to assist search engines
Added in an xml sitemap module to update on new content, and resubmit the xml plan to google, yahoo, bing, ask, etc.
Added Mollom security to the site to prevent spam user accounts. Closed unconfirmed accounts.
Mollom is a tool that utilizes CAPTCHA (challenge-response test used to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer) as a means of authenticating new users.
We've had to add this security step because I believe that we've had a significant number of bots sign up bogus user accounts. This is evident because their user names include words like VIAGRA and PILLS or because they never login to the site and do not respond to email requests to do so.
Also, as a security step, I've closed all user accounts where the user has never logged into this site to confirm their email address. This site is the 2nd version since going live in August 2009 due to some technology improvements we wanted to take advantage of. We migrated a lot of user accounts over to the new site, but those users who never logged into the new site (its been several weeks and I sent out several reminders to do so) have had their accounts closed.
Users who've had their accounts closed erroneously may simply sign up for a new account, playing careful attention to confirm their email address. If you do not receive an email from noreply@charlottejetsfans.com requesting you to click on a link to confirm registration, please check your junk or spam folders or contact us and we can reissue the email.
Finally fixed the ganggreennation.xml feed by switching all aggregation from drupal to Yahoo! Pipes
The Gang Green Nation RSS feed for some reason was not bringing in the correct hyperlinks. As a result, every article hyperlinked to the same page (which happened to be the oldest url in the feed).
The solution I settled on was using an external aggregator, Yahoo Pipes, to bring in 5 sources, filter out duplicates (there wasnt going to be any, but just in case) and then sort the results collectively by publishing date, asc.
Once the pipe was complete and published, I linked the Drupal RSS Aggregator to the one output from Yahoo, and... perfection.
I now have the ability to change up the feeds, and create filters (like filter out articles containing "Favre" without having to change it in drupal.
Also, other sites can also link to my RSS feed from Pipes if they like it enough!
